Now reading: "Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster" by Jon Krakauer

"You have to read this book." That's what my daughter said as she handed me her copy of "Into Thin Air" during a recent visit.

I had heard of the book before, and was vaguely aware it told the story of an ill-fated Mount Everest climb.

What I had not known - the author was himself a participant on the climb, having been commissioned by Outside magazine to climb Everest and write about it for the magazine. Eight climbers died on that climb. I'm 85 pages into the book, and it is riveting.

The author is accomplished. I read - and liked - one of his other books, "Under the Banner of Heaven."

I'll write a full review when I finish.
